DiCaprio gets a taste of the South Coast
March 24, 2006 / By Sejal Desai
Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio feasted on Tempura of Prawns and line fish while his supermodel girlfriend, Gisele Bundchen, enjoyed spiced chicken on a romantic dinner date at Lynton Hall on the South Coast.
DiCaprio made the surprise visit to sample South African Chef of the Year Richard Carstens's fare while shooting the much-anticipated movie The Blood Diamond on the South Coast.
The multimillion-dollar production boasts a world- renowned cast including Danny Glover and Jennifer Connelly. The couple's attendance at the restaurant came as a surprise to many because the two were said to be keeping a "super-low" profile to keep away any unwanted attention.
Lynton Hall General Manager Germaine Lehodey said the couple had made reservations for a fake date and then arrived for dinner on March 5.
The couple entered the restaurant with a bodyguard. DiCaprio, described by Lehodey as "friendly, cool and polite", was said to be dressed casually in jeans, a T-shirt and a cap. It is unclear what Bundchen was wearing as Lehodey was unable to concentrate on her attire at the time.
"She was so beautiful and gorgeous to look at, the outfit didn't really matter," he said.
DiCaprio did not bother with a reserved or secluded table and sat at the first table he saw.
Lehodey said there was a buzz of excitement among other restaurant patrons but no one made a fuss by crowding around him. He said DiCaprio seemed surprised but glad that no one had disturbed his romantic meal for an autograph.
Lehodey described the two as "quite in love, very sweet and were touching and holding hands a lot".
DiCaprio signed the guest register saying, "wonderful food, very blown away by the quality and service".
With filming on the South Coast complete, DiCaprio is to leave for Mozambique next week where the next segment of shooting begins.
